Hi" Jo,
You say, you have dry rot in the roof,? if you have
dry rot you will have a fungus looking things growing
on the wood, the wood will have become very dry and the
color a bit grayish, do you have little fingers of
fungis in the area,?.
is the old wood still wet,??(Important)or is the wood like
powder and look if you can see the wood cracks along the
sides (the cracks are like little cubes).
I think you may have wet rot, and not dry rot,and
you can just replace the timber that is discolored
that will be the wet rot...
But come back to us and let us know what it looks like "OK"
