I have been servicing dryer vents for the past several years. A vent that goes up and out of the house should be cleaned in most cases yearly. As the vent becomes clogged up air flow is reduced causing more lint to collect inside the vent. If possible reroute the vent down under the house and outside at the nearest point. Booster fans can cause more problems than they solve. Call your local chimney sweep or air duct cleaning company for more info.
