Dryer has extra prong?

Posted by Angus on February 6th, 2000 06:11 PM

Hi,
I recently moved to NJ. My almost new dryer has a 4 pronged cord/plug, while the wall socket is 3 pronged. Could I convert the socket to a 4 pronged? I see a wire coming to the socket with 4 wires - red, black, and white, and a copper naked wire currently connected to the body of the socket bin. I also purchased a 4 hole socket from hardware store.

Please advice. Thank you for this forum.
