Driveway Alternatives

Hello! My wife and I just purchased our first home. The driveway is just gras and dirt, which is unsightly and becomes muddy after a rain. The approach apron/ramp is already in place and the garage has a cement floor, which is perfectly aligned with the apron. The area is approximately 600 sq ft. To have a cement driveway poured will cost me between $1900-2000. Yikes! So here's my question: Are there any alternatives to cement that I can do myself and that are less expensive? I'm thinking pavers or bricks can be laid in an attractive pattern. Anyone have ideas? Thanks!
