In reply to repairing the pipe under my bathroom sink by jackie on April 7th, 2001 10:19 PM [Go to top of thread]

from experience usually plastic connects to metal pipe with a compresson ring in side the nut with the threads being on the plastic pipe and the metal being smooth
if this is the case then you need to remove the nut from the plastic pipe it will slide down the metal pipe
remove plastic pipe from metal pipe being carefull not to cause other connectins of the Ptrap to start leaking ( good luck on this 50/50 chance) there should be a plastic ring either white or black clean this checking for cuts or nicks clean end of metal pipe well but do not sand it with sand paper rag or dish scuffy works great

ok put plastic ring on metal pipe slide down till top of it flush with where plastic pipe gonna fit connect plastic pipe to metal pipe slide plastic ring to plastic pipe till it snug against plastic pipe not on pipe just against it slide nut up metal pipe from where you laft it in step one :) thread it onto plastic pipe tighting do not tighten with tool tighten with hand otta do just fine
check for leaks

good luck plumbing is a hit and miss thing except to a plumber
plastic ring is tightened by the nut around the metal pipe to form a seal many times ring needs replaced
