double-hung window restoration

Posted by Robert B on June 24th, 2001 09:59 PM

I have a house built in 1839 in CT and want to do
simple restoration on the windows. I just want to
leave the frame in and install a product that makes
the sashes more weatherproof. I have investigated
several approaches, but want to get any input from
others who have done a similar job. One product I
saw requires me to plane 3/8 inch off each side of
the sash to install a new track in the window
frame. I'm not sure I want to take that much
off my sahses. Anyway - thanks for any advice
you can give.
