Just an opinion, I claim no special expertise for this: If the doors are pre-cut for a lock-set, I would cut off on the hinge side, otherwise, 3/8" probably won't make much difference.

I have found that the blade quality matters more than depth of cut in controlling splintering. Thinner kerfs, more teeth and blade coatings are better. Buy an new blade (possibly plywood finishing) for best possible cut. Planning is good for removing smaller amounts of material, otherwise, cut and sand.
