Rich, using a straightedge, score the veneer just above the area to be cut off. Do this on both sides of the door, then clamp a straightedge or straight strip of plywood or 1X material to the door to use as a guide for your skilsaw (with the blade installed normally).

Provided you are only cutting an inch or so off, all you'll have left to do is lightly sand the cut edge and put some sealer on the bottom.

If you're cutting off quite a bit of material, it's likely you'll have to rebuild the bottom of the door, but that's also not hard to do; post back if you need this info.
