don't ever heat gun!

Whatever you do on this complicated issue, make sure you never use a heat gun to remove lead paint because that will actually volatilize the lead and make it much more hazardous if you breathe it.

If it's in good shape and not a "chewable" surface, it is much less hazardous. If you don't know what you're doing, you can create a hazard where there wasn't one before.

The EPA has a lead hotline. Your local health department may also have some good information on lead too.
