I had a puppy that was diagnosed with diabetes and hence peed ALOT in the house. After a while the urine did get into the floorboards and they started to raise up slightly at the joins. This was an old floor though and the varnish was fairly worn out. I would think as long as you've got a heavy duty varnish on the floor (use oil based NOT water based it's longer lasting and much tougher despite what people say) then it should be well enough sealed against small mishaps.
