Does putting my spa heater on a timer save energy?

Posted by Kevin on April 18th, 2001 01:33 AM

Hi all.

I recently moved to a town house that came with a spa (the self-contained, insulated, electric kind) in the back yard. Yeah - lucky me. :)

Here's the UNLUCKY part: I live in San Diego County where electricity rates are horrendous. I just got a power bill for the first 12 days and it's $77.52!!!

This home is ALL ELECTRIC: the water heater, furnace (blower AND heat), stove, and spa are all electric.

Here's my question: Would it be wise to put my spa heater and hot water heater on timers so that they're not being heated when not needed? Or, will it take MORE energy to make warm water hot again?

Thanks!

Kevin
