Rich, I built my own 40' x 40' double "U" dock. Even though I had an architect design my floating dock, I found out afterwards (when I purchased the building materials) that the DOW company that makes 18"x2'x8' styrofoam floats, also provides FREE dock plans.
I live in Northern California and purchased all my dock hardware from HENDERSON'S MARINE PRODUCTS located in Richmond, Ca. who had the free plans or you can try contacting the DOW corporation.
Even though you may utilize the DOW plans, I recommend you don't use the DOW floats. They are a nice blue color (for about a year) then turn a yucky green. I don't think they are too environmentally safe either. When Algae forms, this attracts the ducks to feed on it and in doing so, they ingest chucks of the styrofoam along with it making them sick.
There is another company that makes floats out of a black PVC material. I found out too late about these. They don't break down and last a long long time. These are a lttle bit more in cost, I paid about $90.00 per float for the DOW styrofoam (my dock took 36 floats) but I think they are well worth it.
