If by "drop ceiling" you mean suspended ceiling, it should be easy. The tiles sit within the metal grid, and the metal grid is held in place by wires attached to the ceiling (or frame) above. It should be fairly easy to push the tiles up, twist them and drop them through the grid. The grid can be removed simply by removing the wires. The perimeter channel will be either nailed or screwed to the walls, but should present no problems.
Now, unless you're comfortable with working with electricity, you may want to hire someone to remove the lights. Basically it involves finding what circuit to shut off in your breaker panel, unwiring and removing the lights, and then wrapping up the remaining wiring until you can determine where future lighting will be in your new ceiling.
