Dishwasher Replacement

I am replacing an existing dishwasher. The current ones drain hose runs through the floor into the basement where it ties into a p-trap. In the manual for the new dishwasher it states that the drain hose must reach 20 inches above the dishwasher floor. I am thinking a looping the drain hose to the 20 inch mark and then back down into the basement where the existing p-trap is. Does this sound okay or should I attach the dishwasher to the kitchen sink creating the 20 inch height. I am assuming that if the drain hose runs down into the basement without the 20 inch height that the water will drain from the dishwasher.
