since you have soft water, you need to cut way back on the amount of detergent used and no need for a rinse agent. If the white film won't wash off, it is possible you glasses have been etched, which is not unusual with soft water and agressive detergents. If it's etched, there is nothing to clean it.....
I have used a product called "glass magic" with great sucess. Our stainless steel dishwasher was white as well as our dishes. We started using 1/4 cup glass magic in addition to the detergent and it took about a month, but our stainless is now shiny again and dishes come out great.
If you cant find glass magic at your local store, go online and use a search for the product, that's how I located it for us....hope this helps....
