Disconnecting a wall switch from a receptacle

Posted by Frank on April 9th, 2003 08:13 PM

The switch have two black wires which I can make continous by joining. However the receptacle have 1 black and two white wires. A black and a white wire is connected to the terminals of the receptacle and the other white wire is grounded on the matal plate of the receptacle. The black and white wires on the receptacle gives me 120 voltage when tested, also the same black wire and the white grounded wire gives me 120 voltage when tested. any explaination. I can simply use the same configuration on the receptacle, but I am not too sure. Help! Thanks again
