Dimmer Switches

Posted by Tony DiStasio on March 1st, 2001 02:48 PM

I have 2 ceiling fans (with lights) hooked up to only one wall switch. To adjust the fan or lights, I need to do that on the fan unit itself.I would like to have a separate dimmer for the lights, but unfortunately each fan unit has only one wire coming into the switch (the light and fan wires were spliced together somewhere in the attic I guess).

Instead of climbing into the attic, could I at least put a heavy duty dimmer that would control the two sets of lights and I would then adjust the fan speed on the unit itself. Someone told me that a regualr dimmer would be a fire hazard with two fans and lights on that one dimmer.

Thanks for any advice.
