Actually the diamonds are there for a specific type
of framing member. The engineered "I" beam wood trusses
have a wider bearing surface than a 2X and can carry more load.
It is not necessary to lay them at 16"o.c. That is
the reason for the wider spacing. At least that's
what Stanely Co. told me when I asked them.
