A heat pump works by taking heat from the air, so the outside coils become cold and the inside coils become warm, the reverse of what happens in the summer, so it is called a reverse-cycle heater. Frosting of the outside unit is normal and this will happen from now on until the summer cooling season. Become concerned if the outside unit is unable to rid itself of ice, until then - all is normal.
