Have you considered just adding an outlet on the other side of the wall where you want it? If your current receptical is on the same wall as you want the new one, it wouldn't be too difficult to accomplish if the plumbing is not in the way within the wall. Your power strip method is simple, but sounds like it would look tacky. If wiring in the wall is out of the question, there is the other possibility of "Wire Mould" surface (track)wiring.
