Decking wood--Steve?

For what it's worth, I have heard reports of TREX getting very splintery after a year or two. But I thought that this would be a good time to ask Steve if he had any experience with Pau Lope or any of the other exotic woods for decks. I got a small sample of the Pau Lope which is a very hard, dense wood. The stuff reportedly is so dense that it almost will not burn. I know that you can get it in standard lumber sizes and the cost is comparable with domestic hardwoods. It really sounds good but the results in actual use might be a lot different. Anybody have experience?
