Decking around pool

Posted by John T on April 7th, 2002 06:46 PM

Do any of you have suggestions for the best type of wood to use around a pool? I just bought an older home with an in-ground pool surrounded by decking that needs to be replaced.
Of course the wood will have to be weather-resistant, but would pressure-treated wood be too rough on the feet as kids run around?

Since it is a large space, would I be better off renting a nail gun instead of using screws? Will nails hold strongly enough, or will they pop too soon?

Also, is it true that I can't stain/paint the wood until I've waited for it to dry out? How long does that take?

Thanks for any suggestions you can provide. Very helpful forum! (Just spent the last 4 hours reading all the posts!)
