Deck/Porch Floor overlay

Posted by Stew on October 14th, 2002 02:29 PM

I converted a 10'x 20' deck to a screened porch. I originally was going to move the deck flooring tighter together - it is spaced about 1/2"+ - to keep out bugs etc. that might fly up between the flooring. However, the flooring is nailed down with 3 1/2" ring shank nails!! The flooring is 2"x 8" treated lumber and in good shape - it's been washed and sealed every 2-3 years.

I want to put an indoor/outdoor carpet on the porch, but the gaps between the flooring create problems with dips in the carpet. Can I put something like 1/4" treated plywood over the old floor to lay the carpet on? Or will this create problems for me?

I need some help, and would appreciate any advice!
