Deck lumber

Posted by Marv F. on July 10th, 1998 03:45 PM

I'm building a large deck and I've decided to use pressure
treated lumber for the substructure. For the decking I
have investigated redwood, cedar and mahogany. I can't
and definite answers on the insect and decay resistance
characteristics of mahogany. Lumber yards that sell it
say real helpful things like "it should outlast you."
Doesn't anyone know how it stands up to weather and
insects? What kind of annual care does it require?
I'm planning to pre-drill it and use stainless steel
screws. Is there a source for mahogany plugs for the
holes afterwards? Any suggestion or leads to a source
of information would be appreciatedl.
