Deck finish

I have a 40' x 40' redwood deck. I have tried everything from
Thompsons, Olympic, Penefin, WeatherMaster, SuperDeck, etc.
Nothing and I mean nothing lasts for more than 1-2 years. I have found the
best method of maintaining the natural color is to powerwash the deck
ANNUALLY (I purchased a 1500 psi powerwasher from Home Depot for around $250.).
Be careful not to use to much force or you will raise the grain and splinter it as
well as make dents on the surface. After removing the dirt and slight greying effect,
caused by the California sun, I apply 1 coat of SuperDeck Clear. If you attempt more
than 1 coat, it will puddle and have a shiney spot when it dries.
I use a roller (for flat surfaces) which takes about 5 gallons (around $100 per 5 gallon can)
to cover my deck.

There are numerous deck "cleaners" that will remove the grey if you don't like the powerwashing

I think out of all the products I've used, Thompsons was the WORST! as far as lasting...

Good luck,
cover my deckworks
