In reply to DECK CLIPS? by Julian Swann on December 17th, 2000 01:50 PM [Go to top of thread]

I once did a search on Altavista asking for deck fasteners and I came across several marketed ones. Should not be a problem finding them.

Being a professional deck designer and builder, I have seen many of these come and go. The disadvantage of these wonder clips is that they are expensive and they do take alot of time hooking them up. Most have to be done underneath or on the bottom of the board before attaching it to the joists.

Then the additional problem lies, if you have to replace a board due to warping, spliting or some other reason, you cannot get to it.

Also, most if not all of these clips do not go far enough into the deck plank itself and does not give enough of a hold as you would like. It does not fight curling either.

I have an assortment of these things that I have found rebuilding older decks and am in total awl. They are somewhat ingenious.
