we use a lot of mahogany decking first. Pressure wash it, fine sand it next to remove the "furr that is raired" then either leave it alone as on my house where it will turn a nice grey, or use a waterproof product like Cupeernol or the like. Do not use varnish or the like unless you want a huge maintenance problem later.
