deadbolt latch removal

Posted by dj on June 26th, 1998 12:21 PM

I want to replace a single-cylinder deadbolt. Can't budge the latch. I tore up my thumb and the steel outer layer of the door trying to remove it. I suspect it's a drive-in type latch, with a sleeve that has back-facing tabs that will slide in but not back out. Is there a trick to removal or is removal simply impossible? Thanks for any advice.
