I have a 60 year old house in Ohio that I've been "improving" for 7 years. I also volunteer on community building projects, along with professional builders (not Habitat, but something similar - usually rehab, not new builds.) For every large project that I take on, my best resource is the library. Planning makes all the difference.
Also, I've been watching shows like 'Home Again' for about 20 years. ('Home Again' was a PBS show back (at least) in 1979 - the hosts would rehab a house that they bought for $1 from the city. (I don't think it was Bob and Norm - but it may have been ... does anyone remember?)
