cutting into a stud wall...

I was assuming that this was a stud and drywall wall and that they wanted a "pass through" opening. Usually these are two to four feet wide. A standard stud wall 16" on center leaves only 14.5" inches between studs. If you then trimmed it out with 3/4" trim on either side your opening would be 13" wide, max. Some dinner plates wouldn't fit through this. So..... I assumed that at least one stud would have to be cut. If you cut a stud you better know if it is bearing, hence my elaborate post...
