cutting countertops

Posted by tom on November 21st, 2002 02:12 PM

We currently have a drop in range in the kitchen. The countertop on either side of the range has a lip(approx. 1 1/2 in) that the range top rests on. We want to change to a slide in range but it won't fit with the lip. So the lip needs to be cut. The countertop is formica with a bevelled oak edge. Can the lip be cut without removing the countertop? Advice please as to process and what kind of professional I should call if this is not a DIY. thanks
