cutting an archway into a load bearing wall

is there a specific formula to calibrate the size of a support beam? this storey and a half house was constructed in the 50's using a standard truss configuration, the span of the arch is going to be 7 feet and butts into an existing brick chimney which travels through the house to the roof. my question is how big does this beam have to be and is there a ledger or table i consult to determine this?
