Cutting an acrylic casing

Please bear with a hardware moron (me). My best friend's father just passed away, and while he and I were cleaning out his father's house, we stumbled upon something fun. It was five hundred dollars (in singles) encased in acrylic for protection. My friend has no idea why his father would have encased it, so he would like to be able to remove the money from the casing without damaging the bills. Is there any way to do this? The acrylic is approximately two centimeters deep in all directions, and the bills are in the form of a brick. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for your time and effort! -Rigel
