Cutting acrylic is tough

because its easy to cut the friction of the blade causes the acrylic to melt and heal up infront of the blade. Its the same with plexiglass.

I just bit the bullet and cut it with a hax saw nice and easy, when the saw frame gets in the way hook the blade up to vice grips and keep on sawing.
