Crawlspace Vapor Barrier

Posted by Jim on September 12th, 2001 09:54 PM

As part of my FHA closing I need to get a crawl space vapor barrier insalled. This is in a 115 year old home with a combination of basement and crawl space.

I've looked online and found some info on putting down a 6 mil poly sheet, attached up the walls with furring strips and caulk. Then connecting sheets with pressure tape. Basically a plastic blanket for the exposed dirt. This sounds doable for a relatively handy person such as myself.

Has anyone out there done this? Any suggestions to make my life easier, and make this thing actually work.

I'm not really liking the idea of packing my 6'2" 250# body into a crawl space. I think it is time for my smaller friends who use me for hauling large objects to pay me back....
