Crawl Space Vent fans??

Posted by Mike B on August 9th, 2000 11:07 AM

I recently had a termite inspector suggest I put a vent fan in my crawl space to help increase ventilation. We've had a ton of rain in NC, and my crawl is wet, as are most in this area. I have a vapor barrier, good gutter drains, and a shallow french drain, but not serious foundation drains. I'm not planning to install any foundation drains any time soon...

But my question is, is anyone familiar with this concept? Maybe more importantly, what type of fan should be used?? I looked at small attic exhaust fans, which seem to fit the bill, but I'm not sure about them in a crawl space application, particularly given the high moisture content in the air.

Any input will be greatly appreciated, as always.
