Craftsman garage door opener won't go down!

I've just bought a house, five yrs old, and with it a .5 hp sears craftsman garage door opener. Using the remote and the wired button, it'll open fine, but it will not close using the remote (only sits there and "clicks"). It will close only if you press and hold the wired button until the garage door opener reaches the floor. (If released too early, the garage door will reverse and return to the open position).

I'm not sure what to try. Any ideas on what might be wrong or what I can do to rectify this condition?

Also, is there a craftsman "help line" that might be available?

I've tried fiddling with the adjustments which affect the force with which the door travels down, thinking that perhaps it didn't have enought "oomph" but that didn't seem to help.

Thanks much for your help!!
