cracks in basement walls

Posted by Judy on March 29th, 2003 12:21 PM

If you had the whole basement waterproofed and you are finding cracks in the walls who would you call out first, we have had the contractors back and they said the walls are in better shape than they have ever been. But we still worry about all of the cracks, not the hair lines ones the bigger ones. Some go down the walls in the middle of the cement blocks not along the edge of the blocks. Should we call out an structural engineer first or a foundation expert? or just live with it? We have lanscaped so that the water is away from the house when it rains. We have a sump pump that runs even when it is not raining so there must be water under the house coming from someplace. We would welcome any ideas. Thanks
