Caulking is the easiest way out. I believe that no matter what you do, those cracks will always come back. Taping and feathering may work out to be a waste of time. Take the time to smooth the caulking out with your finger.

A footnote here. Fiberglass mesh joint tape is, in my humble opinion, junk. For taping cracks, nothing works as well as paper joint tape, which I glue down with border adhesive to assure adhesion and to give it a lower profile for feathering.
