Cracked marble countertops

I am restoring an 1852 farmhouse and just had honed, white carrera marble countertops installed in the kitchen. I noticed two 5" cracks in the marble. One crack extends from the hole that was drilled for the air gap, the other crack extends from one of the seams. I expressed my dissatisfaction to the installer and he said the cracks are "fissures" which occur commonly when using a natural product like marble. It sure looks like cracked, damaged marble to me. Some people tell me the slabs should be replaced. I don't know what to believe.
