Cracked Basement Floors

Posted by Chris on February 4th, 2003 09:49 AM

We live in a new home that was finished in September of 2002. The basement floor was poured as one slab with no expansion joints at all. Cracks formed almost immediately, but I was assured by the builder that they were A) normal and B) "...done on purpose..." because they were straight lines. I was told this was done to prevent cracking elsewhere.

However, within a month, we began to have more cracks form in the basement floor. They are not straight, "on purpose" cracks. In the following months, more and more cracks have appeared.

I have heard that this is no problem, as long as the floor is not leaking.

I need to know if I'm being completely lied to and if this is, in fact, a concern or not.

Any advice is appreciated.
