Crack on Slab - Post tension foundation

Posted by Dayanand Sankar on July 21st, 2000 04:10 PM

I am building a new home in Sugar Land Tx near Houston. The concrete was poured on 7/8/00 and within 3-4 days the slab has a crack (about 1mm thick) running from one of side of the slab to the other side. It is visible to the naked eye. The crack appears on both the sides of the slab and on the top also and on the sides it goes down as far as I could dig up the dirt about 1 feet deep. After a week the post tension cables were pulled to tension and the cracks seem to have closed a little bit but still visible. Is this normal in this area. Will I have any future problem because of this crack. The builder claims this is normal and there is nothing to worry about, but I feel that the slab is cracked and that I will definetely have problems in the future.

Any comments are appreciated.

Thanks in advance.
