Your selection of countertops is going to depend on your lifestyle and budget. My personal opinion is go for the granite. Their are some fantastic stones out there. But be prepared for the price. Keep in mind a stone common stone will cost less. Corian is also a great alternative. It is not as indestrucable as everyone believes. A hot pot is an enemy. The heat can travel to a weak point and crack the top, not covered by warranty. The nice thing is bacteria can not grow on this surface and scratches are easy to remove as long it is not a polished surface. Something to prepare for is Corian can be as expensive as granite if you get into some of the colors. Depending on your kitchen design. A great look and a way to save some cash is Corian for your main counters and granite for an island. Good luck.
