I bought one last year, a 12 volt Porter Cable, because it
was the only one at the time that did not agravate
my tendonitis. I have found that it will drive about
150 2" drywall screws before the battery needs charging,
which is more than enough for home use(in fact it is overkill).
More voltage can mean more torque (if I don't set the clutch, it
will snap the head off a drywall screw), or it can mean the ability
to drive more screws/drill more holes between recharges, or it can
just be a sales ploy, so look at the numbers that are supplied.
