I have 4 cordless drilss - two older black and decker - 9.6 Hitachi and a 12v Makita - the hitachi is the best I have used but they don't make them anymore - I am pretty disapointed with the Makita - I have been looking at new ones and the craftsman 12-14v are a good price right now - the 14.4 is the same as the Dewalt(according to the craftsman salesman - He did seem believable
because he suggested I go to Wal-Mart for another item I was looking for - to save nearly 75$) - for
occasional home use anything higher than 9.6 is fine - there are new batteries for the newer models - on a makita they are black - the old ones are red and will not hold a charge nearly as long - For your needs - and the price I would get a craftsman
