Condensation occurs when the cooler air in a duct moves through a warm attic. These ducts should be insulated and the attic ventilated. Moisture at the registers is not an indication of carbon monoxide. A furnace should be cleaned every year. The smell is from dust on the heat exchanger getting burndt off.
