Check to see if the drain pan of the unit has a trap to collect water from the indoor blower coil. About 6 months ago is the time that the trap water could evaporate from not gathering more condensed water during the cooling season. If the condensate line is attached into a plumbing vent going through the roof, the smell can come into the blower when the trap water has evaporated. This is not a legal way to connect the pan drain, but is done sometimes.
