Concrete Pool Deck and Subgrade Thickness

I am in the process of installing an inground pool, and have received bids from several concrete deck contractors for the pool deck. They have recommended anywhere from 2" thick subgrade with a 2" thick layer of concrete on top, to 4" subgrade and 4" concrete as the top layer. We plan on choosing 1/4 Pami exposed aggregate, and live in a mild climate. The deck area will be approximately 1,000 sq. ft. I realize that we will pay more when more materials are used, but my main concern is the stability and durability of the deck. Is 4" overkill, or is it standard? Any advice on selecting the thickness, and any other details would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!
