The "oil" type require an oil-bath for lubrication,
much like your car engine, while the oil-less don't.

The oil-less tend to be noisier and need rebuilding
a bit sooner than a properly maintained oil-bath
type, but on the other hand, rebuilding an oil-less
is very simple and cheap compared to the oil-bath.
Also, the oil-less don't need to be level all the
time like the oil-bath do, and there is no chance
of an unexpected oil spill from a portable unit.
Try to get them to power up a unit or two so you
can get an idea of how loud they are, everybodies
threshold of pain is different.
