Compressed insullation

I was told by my home inspector that if I compressed the attic insullation to put down a floor, my R-factor would be cut in half, or worse (the attic has 12 inches of blown fiberglass insullation). He recommended building an elevated floor by attaching 2x6's (on edge) on top to the 2x6 rafters. I haven't done anything yet, but I'll probably go this route.

And oh yes, do use screws, if for nothing else to avoid nail pops in the ceiling below from hammering!
